This paper offers a brief overview of Mexico’s political evolution from its independence through the establishment of a system in which political parties were initially prohibited, to one where, by the early 20th century, these organizations had secured a monopoly over elected positions. It also examines the efforts that began in the late 20th and early 21st centuries to revive independent candidacies, culminating in their formal recognition within the Mexican legal framework. The study concludes with a proposed typology of the so-called independent candidacies.
