The value of surplus: when nothing is truly wasted
Keywords:

The fall armyworm, Spodoptera frugiperda, poses a significant threat to corn crops. Although chemical insecticides can control pests, they sometimes disrupt the balance of the agroecosystem. A safer and environmentally friendly option is baculoviruses, which target only the pest without harming other living beings. For them to be effective in the field, they need protection. This is where agricultural residues play a special role: rather than being considered mere waste, they can serve as natural carriers that help keep viruses active for longer. In this way, what once seemed like trash becomes a key ally in promoting more sustainable agriculture.
