Abstract

Vaping is often perceived as a safer alternative to traditional cigarettes, although the reality is far more complex. The concern is not only the e-liquid itself, but also the heat generated by the device, which can produce potentially toxic substances and release metals into the inhaled aerosol. More than a single puff, the main concern is the repeated and long-term exposure to these compounds. Cases such as E-cigarette or Vaping Product Use-Associated Lung Injury (EVALI) have shown that vaping can cause severe and even fatal lung injury, in addition to physical hazards related to lithium battery failures. This issue is particularly relevant in Mexico, where the use of these devices is more common among adolescents than adults.
