This work revisits the commemoration of the third centenary of the death of Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra held in Morelia in 1916, through the Literary Contest organized by the scientific-literary society Liceo Michoacano. It places the event in the historical context of local literary societies and describes the cultural project of the Liceo Michoacano and its magazine Minerva. The contest left its mark on the society’s magazine and today allows us to approach that moment when the actors of Michoacán literature worked for art and culture even in revolutionary times.
